The myth behind the constellation
Leo is linked to the Nemean lion of Greek myth, a monstrous beast whose golden hide couldn't be pierced by any weapon. Slaying it was the first of the twelve labours of Heracles. Unable to wound it, Heracles wrestled the lion and strangled it, then wore its impenetrable skin as armour. The lion was set among the stars.
Leo is one of the easier constellations to spot. A backwards question-mark shape, known as the Sickle, forms the lion's head and mane, with the bright star Regulus — "little king" — at its base. A royal star for a regal sign.
